The Potvis was transferred to the Under-secretary of Defence A.v.Es by the Director of Wilton Fijenoord, Ir.J.E.Woltjer on 2 November 1965 at the Wilton Fijenoord Shipyard in Schiedam. The Under-Secretary put the ship at the disposal of the Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy, Vice-Admiraal A.H.J.v.d.Schatte-Olivier, who ordered the Appointed commander, Ltcdr.J.H.J.M.Lohmeijer to commission the ship. Also present were the Flag Officer Material, Vice-Admiraal P.Cool, and the Captain Netherlands Submarines, Captain C.E.Woldering and Mrs A.C.J.H. de Jong-Bartels, Who had launched the ship and given her the name Potvis. She is the wife of P.J.S. d Jong former Submarine Commander, Secretary of Defence and Prime Minister. The ceremony was adorned by the presence of foul weather and the band of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps.
